Illegal Downloading : Evaluation

Evaluation
I wrote a piece of journalism for The Grazia and the target audience is for teenagers and the topic is about illegal downloading and whether or not it is destroying the music industry.
Research
First I looked at the BBC newssheet and I highlighted key points that was illustrated and made any notes that I thought I could expand on. I then extended my research by going on the internet and looking for quotes from celebrities and also any statistics and facts that I thought were relevant.
I used sources such as ‘The Independent’ and they gave facts such as; there was an increase of 24.5% from 19.2% in the last year and 1.2 Billion tracks were illegally downloaded in 2010. Some of the research I found was useful to me but others such weren’t as useful and had no relevance to the topic I was talking about. I ensured that there was reliability and relevance to what I was saying by what I found difficult was that there was not much facts and opinions of people agreeing that illegal downloading was destroying the music industry.
Journalistic Writing
When I was writing my article I found it easy to write as I knew my target audience and I could relate to the target audience as I am a teenager.  I used appropriate structure for my article for instance I used column because I knew what and who the article was for. My use of language was modern for example when I said “Okay fine I understand when you say “I’m not leaving my house to go to HMV when I can just download the album.” And when I said “Come on, surely saving a tenner to support your favourite artist is worth it” I used this type of language so that it was understandable as I was trying to relate to my target audience.
InDesign
When I was using InDesign I found it hard it first to understand where most things were for example, how to align the text but I soon figured it out. I learned to use the rulers on the screen to get equal grids so that it would be easier to create columns. I learned how to make a text box and to insert images onto my article and how to resize them so they fit properly. Other techniques I learned was how to aligned an image with the text
Web Publishing
I have not yet been able to publish to my blog as the network does not allow me.
Audience Feedback
I went around my class and I asked for some feedback on my article and here is what they said
·         Pictures relate to the article
·         Should have added a slogan
·         Great use of columns
·         Should add magazine’s name in the header

Improvements
Improvements I would make to my article is to research more, look for more reliable sources, try and find more statistics than quotes and to extend my knowledge of InDesign.
